Fried Banana, Indonesian Favorite Meal

Who doesn't know Fried Banana? Indonesian people know this meal. Banana tree can grow and be found in almost every where. There are some varieties of banana. Some can be processed to be a cake or other meal, and some we just can eat it.  One of the simple menu that made of banana is fried banana. There are some banana varieties that can be fried, one of them is called Pisang Tanduk. Pisang means banana and Tanduk means horn.  This kind of banana is longer than the other bananas and the texture is more solid. The taste of this banana is sweet. But if it is not ripe yet it tastes  sepet , not sweet not sour. To make fried Pisang Tanduk is very easy. It just need some flour, rice flour, sugar, water, and cooking oil.   

Akar Kelapa, The Indonesian Traditional Snack

  Akar Kelapa is the Betawi snack. It is one of the special snacks that has to be served in Betawi's House every Lebaran's day.  The name of Akar Kelapa is taken from its shape. Akar Means root and Kelapa Means coconut. So, the shape of this snack is like coconut root.  Akar Kelapa is an old snack that still exists until now. The taste of this snack is sweet and tasty. It's crunchy when you take a bite.

Comro, The Indonesian Traditional Snack

I have ever written about one of Indonesian traditional snack, Misro. You know what, that food always relates to the food that I want to tell you, Comro. Misro is short for aMis dijeRo, and Comro is short for onCom dijeRo. It means oncom (fermented of the dregs of tofu or soybean) is inside.  Like Misro, Comro is made of cassava as the main ingredient. The diference between Misro and Comro is the filling inside and the shape of those food. The shape of Misro is round, while Comro is oval. How to make Comro is the same as how to make Misro. In Indonesia, we still can find Comro easily. We can find it in fried food seller as the street food. The taste of this food is tasty and spicy (if someone wants to). Yet, to make this food is very easy. The ingredients we need: Cassava Coconut Oncom Salt Chili Shallot Garlic Cooking Oil How to make: Grate the cassava and coconut. Mix them and add it salt. Kecapi or Santol Fruit, One of the Indonesian Fruit but Only Some People Know It

Santol or cotton fruit is a tropical fruit native to maritime Southest Asia. The santol is native to the Malesian floristic region but have been introduced to Indocina, Sri Lanka, India, and Indonesia.  In Indonesia, this fruit grows only in certain town, such as in Jakarta and Bekasi West Java. We call it Kecapi. There are two varieties of Kecapi with two different species, the yellow variety and the green one. The difference is in the color that the older leaves turn before falling.  The shape of Kecapi is small round and it has a soft skin like silk or cotton. The taste of the yellow variety is sweet if the fruit is ripe enough and sour if it is not ready to pick. But for the green variety, it is all sweet. We call that variety Kecapi Daon. Daon or Daun means leave. Wedang Jahe, the Indonesian Traditional Drink

Indonesia has some traditional drinks that has some benefits for our body. One of them is Wedang Jahe.  Wedang Jahe comes from Javanese which means Ginger Drink. This drink was inherited from the ancestor from generation to another generation. And now it becomes a drink that can be consumed as a healthy drink for everybody in Indonesia. Like its name, jahe or ginger, this drink made from ginger for the main ingredient. Besides ginger, there are some herbs and condensed milk added into this drink. The taste is not only good, but also it can warm our body to make it feel good, especially in the cold weather.  Because of making Wedang Jahe is so easy, so everyone can make this drink by themselves or instantly buying this in the stores.  Wedang Jahe can be served in hot or cold with ice.

Bir Pletok, The Indonesian Healthy Beer

Bir Pletok or Pletok Beer is the Indonesian drink which is originally from Betawi, Jakarta. The color is red, the taste is sweet and hot, and it feels warm in our body.  Unlike the regular beer, it doesn't make someone gets drunk. Otherwise, it can make our body feels so good because the ingredients of this drink are made from the herbs. It contains ginger, lemongrass, cardamon, pandan leaves, Secang wood, palm sugar, and water. All ingredients are boiled at once. We can serve this drink in hot or cold with ice cube. Why is this drink called beer? This drink has already existed in Dutch colonial. At that time, the Dutch invaders brought their habit drank beer to make their bodies warmed. For Moslem people, it is forbidden to drink something that contains alcohol. There is Sweet Red Bean Ice in some Asian countries, including Indonesia. Yet, it has a bit different ingredients and taste in each of those countries. In Indonesia, this beverage comes from Palembang, South Sumatra. We can consume this in any seasons. Most Indonesian people like Sweet Read Bean Ice because of  delicious and unique taste. The tender red bean with red syrup, coconut milk, and shaved ice melt in our mouth at once. It is fresh and good because red bean has so many benefits for our body. Usually, Indonesian people can buy this in a restaurant that sells Palembang's food, such as Pempek and Tekwan. But sometimes we can find it in the certain Chinese restaurant or stall.

Tekwan, The Indonesian Traditional Food

Tekwan is one of Indonesian traditional food. It is originally from Palembang, South Sumatra, Indonesia. Besides Pempek, there is Tekwan that we can meet or order at the Palembang food stall.  Tekwan is made from tapioca and fish that shaped round like meatball, we call it fish meatball. It is served with vermicelli, jicama, mushroom, fried onion, green onion, celery and shrimp broth. Tekwan is one of indonesian favorite food. Everyone can eat it because of the taste fits for everyone's taste. The history said that this food is an acculturation culinary between Tionghoa (Chinese People) and Palembang culture. At that time, Tionghoa stayed in Palembang and introduced that food to Palembang people. Then that food was adopted by Palembang people. They changed the taste to be local flavor. Here is another Indonesian food or snack is made from cassava, it's called Misro. Misro is short for aMis dijeRo. Amis dijero is Sundanese language, which means sweet inside. This snack originally is from Bandung, West Java.  The shape of this food is round and flat. The texture is tender and a bit chewy. The taste is tasty and sweet. Since this food is traditional food or snack, so we only can find it in certain fried food seller on the street.  Yet, when we want to eat this food everyday or whenever we want to, it is very easy to make. The ingredients we need are: Cassava Coconut Palm sugar Salt Cooking Oil How to make: Grate the cassava and coconut. Mix them and add it salt. Mix them altogether. Slice the palm sugar. Take the dough (number 2), flatten it and fill it with palm sugar, cover it with another dough on top. Round it up and flatten it.  Fry it with medium heat until the color of Misro is brownish. Misro is ready to serve.

Asinan Sayur, Indonesian Salad and One of Indonesian Favorite Food

In some western countries have salad, in Indonesia has Asinan. There are two kinds of Asinan; Asinan Buah or Fruit Asinan and Asinan Sayur or Vegetable Asinan. But Asinan that I want to tell you is Asinan Sayur. Just like salad, the main ingredients of Asinan Sayur is vegetables. The thing that make it a bit different is the dressing or the sauce.  The word Asinan comes from asin, which means salty. It relates to how this food made. According to the history about the dish is the process of making it through salting the vegetables with salt or pickling one the vegetables with vinegar.  It is very easy to make Asinan Sayur. We only need some vegetables, such as: cucumber, carrot, bean sprouts, cabbage, and lettuce. And for the complementary we need fried peanut, tofu, yellow noodle, and kerupuk (Indonesian traditional chip). For the sauce we need peanut, palm sugar, tamarind, salt, chili, and water.

Kue Klepon, Indonesian Traditional Snack

Kue Klepon is one of Indonesian traditional food that made from sticky rice flour. But some people make this food using sweet potato as the main ingredient.  Kue Klepon has a round shape, the color is light green, and the taste is sweet and tasty because there are palm sugar inside and grated coconut outside. Once you eat and bite it, don't open your mouth when Klepon is inside your mouth. Because the palm sugar will melt in your mouth shortly.  Kue Klepon has already been around Indonesia in 1950s and is still around until now. We can find it on traditional market or the street in the night.  To make Kue Klepon is very easy. It's not hard to find the ingredients for making it. We only need: Sticky rice flour Palm sugar Grated coconut Pandan leave or Pandan pasta Salt Or we can make it using the other ingredient. Kue Cucur or Cucur cake is one of Indonesian traditional foods that can be found throughout traditional marketplaces in Indonesia. However the popular version is from Betawi, Jakarta. The main ingredients of this food are rice flour and palm sugar. The shape of this food is round, it's thick in the middle and thin at the edges. It tastes sweet and delicious. Kue Cucur was a famous food in Jakarta and surroundings areas, including my city, Bekasi, West Java. I used to eat this for my breakfast almost every day and be of one my favorite traditional food. I bought it from cake seller who sells the the traditional cakes walks around my place. A long time ago we still can find Kue Cucur easily. Nowadays, we just can find it in a certain traditional market. But since I know how to make it, I can eat this food whenever I want. Getuk Lindri, Indonesian Traditional Food Made from Cassava

Getuk or Gethuk is a Javanese traditional Food. It is made from cassava. There are some variants of Getuk. One of them is called Getuk Lindri. It has the softest texture than the other Getuk. In early 2000, this food was one of traditional food that can be found everywhere easily. Since there were so many kinds of food came up, this traditional food was a bit forgotten, even most of Indonesian millennial generations don't know this food. Year by year the seller of this food is less and the food is hard to find. Getuk Lindri still can be found in some places or in traditional market. But I rarely find it in the city or the region where I live in. I love Getuk Lindri much more the other Getuk. So, when I find the seller on the road, I feel so lucky that I can eat that food. Actually, it is not really hard to make Getuk. Yet because of its shape, it looks hard to make it. It needs a tool to make the shape. Lately, I found the way how to make it without the tool. Tahu Gejrot, Indonesian Street Food

Tahu Gejrot is one of Indonesian street food. It comes from Cirebon, West Java, but we can find it in almost every city in Indonesia. It's made of brown tofu (we call it Tahu Pong) and the simple spices. We can get it by buying it on the street or making it by our self, because it is very to make it. The Ingredients: Brown Tofu (Tahu Pong) Palm sugar Chilies Garlic Onion Salt Water How to make: Cut the tofu into 4 pieces Grind some chilies, two cloves of garlic, an onion, and salt. Then put palm sugar and grind it. Put some water and mix them all. Tahu Gejrot is ready to serve.

Lava Meatball

Mostly, Indonesian people like Bakso (meatball) so much. There are some variants of meatball in Indonesia, from the general ones to the extraordinary ones. One of them is called Lava Meatball or Bakso Lava. Actually not all the Bakso seller sells this kind of variant. But it's only sold in few Bakso stalls that sell some others variant of meatball, either the size or shape. Just like its name, Lava Meatball, it has "lava" inside the meatball. Which means, when you cut the big meatball, there will be "lava" comes out from the meatball. The lava itself contains some chilies and small meatballs. The taste must be so spicy and hot. Pempek, Indonesian Traditional Dish

Pempek or Empek-empek is a savory Indonesian fishcake. It's from Palembang, South Sumatra, Indonesia. It's made of fish and tapioca for the main ingredients. There are some variants of Pempek; Kapal Selam, Lenjer, Adaan, Lenggang, Kulit, Model, Pastel, and other more. All of them are so good. Most of Indonesian people like Pempek. Pempek could be as a main course or snack. Pempek is served with sweet and sour sauce. Indonesian people call it cuko or cuka which means vinegar. If someone wants the spicy one, there is sambal made of hot green chili. Diced cucumber and dried little shrimp are the complement of this dish.

Gado-gado, Indonesian Traditional Dish

Gado-gado is one of Indonesian traditional dish that you can meet everywhere in Indonesia's streets or a restaurant. Almost Indonesian people like this food. Many people call it Indonesian salad. Gado-gado comes from Betawi, Jakarta. The term Gado is from Betawi language, Menggado or Gadoin, which means to consume or eat something without rice. And Gado-gado itself in Indonesian literally means "mix -mix". We just have to mix all Gado-gado ingredients in one plate with peanut sauce. Here are the main ingredients: Cucumber Boiled water spinach Boiled spinach Boiled cabbage Boiled bean sprouts Boiled long bean Fried Tempe Fried Tofu If you want the special one, you can add boiled egg. How to serve: You put all the ingredients and pour it a peanut sauce on them and mix altogether. Add some Krupuk (Indonesian traditional chip)
